QUOTA INTERNATIONAL OF INDIANA, PA INDUCTS FIVE MEMBERS
Quota International of Indiana President Connie McCardle installed new members Lori Evans, Tracey Redd and Kathy Rose of Indiana and Gina Lieb of Shelocta and reinstated Ann Marie Riscinto of Indiana at the February meeting of the club.
The new members bring the total club membership to 52.
Club members also heard an update on the January Alice Paul House fundraising event, co-sponsored by The Coney Island Restaurant and Quota International of Indiana. The fifth annual event raised more than $5,000 for the Alice Paul House, a shelter for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence.
Funds will be used for programming and items for children served by the Alice Paul House. Funds from previous events were used for the playground construction and playground equipment at the Alice Paul House. Over the past five years, Quota International of Indiana has donated more than $18,000 to the Alice Paul House.
The event featured beverage samplings and appetizers with musical entertainment was provided by Dr. Keith Young, Chris Wengert and Mike Majurski from the IUP Department of Music. Select wine, beer and malt beverage samplings were donated by the following vendors: Lamantia Distributing; Sky Spirits; Inco Distributing; Southern Wine & Spirits; Fuhrer Distributing; Capitol Wine & Spirits and Diageo.
All food and service was donated by The Coney Island. Ticket design and production for the event was donated by Cats-Up Graphics.
Carol McQuaide, a member of Quota and of the Alice Paul House Board of Directors, serves as liaison with the board and Quota and chaired this year’s event.
Quotarians are actively planning for the third annual St. Patty’s Day Open, an indoor golf fundraising event at Downtown Indiana businesses. This event is set for March 14. A limited number of team sponsorships and tee sponsorships are still available. Team and tee sponsorships can be reserved by calling Megan White at 724-349-9093.
Club members are also finalizing plans for hosting the District Three Quota International Conference in April. This conference will draw Quotarians from seven clubs located in western Pennsylvania.
Quota International Inc. is an 89-year-old international service organization that links members of all ages, occupations and nationalities in a worldwide network of service and friendship. With a motto of "we share," Quotarians are known especially for their service to deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech impaired individuals and disadvantaged women and children. Quota International of Indiana, with 52 active members, meets monthly August through May. Quota International of Indiana, Pa., is 52 years old.
In addition to financial donations, club members bring items monthly according to needs for the Alice Paul House, including toiletries, notebooks and journals; paper products; gasoline cards; telephone cards; detergent; and toys and specially themed children’s books for the children to keep.
Quota International of Indiana continues an active schedule of community service in addition to support of the Alice Paul House, including a mentoring program for girls and teens; financial support for Deaf Awareness Days, annual scholarships for IUP students studying in the speech and hearing department and donated a third sound amplification device to an area school district in 2008.
