Quota International of Indiana recently installed two new members and collected items for the “Saving Soles” program at its April meeting.
Deborah Phillips and Stephanie Sherry, both of Indiana, were installed as new members.
In response to a program by Malaika Turner, director of the “Saving Soles” program, members made a donation of new or gently used shoes for women who are entering the workforce.
Quota International Inc. is an 89-year-old international service organization that links members of all ages, occupations and nationalities in a worldwide network of service and friendship. With a motto of "we share," Quotarians are known especially for their service to deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech impaired individuals and disadvantaged women and children.
Quota International of Indiana, with 50 active members, meets monthly at the Indiana Elks for a dinner meeting August through May. Quota of Indiana celebrated its 52nd anniversary in September 2007.
Most recently, Quota of Indiana raised almost $10,000 during the St. Patty’s Day golf outing, used to support Downtown Indiana Renaissance project and the club’s community initiatives.
Earlier this year, the club raised $5,000 during the fifth annual Alice Paul House event Upstairs at the Coney. Over the past five years, Quota and The Coney have together raised more than $23,000 to support initiatives for women and children at the Alice Paul House, including a new playground at the facility.
In March, Quota hosted a bowling party- mentoring event with more than 25 children from Indiana County’s Big Hearts, Little Hands program and Children and Youth Services’ Independent Living and Learning program on March 27 at the Indiana Elks Club.
Quota International of Indiana will be hosting the District III Conference April 25-27. This event will include more than 55 Quotarians from throughout western Pennsylvania from District III Clubs in Altoona, Blairsville, Hermitage, Indiana, Johnstown and Shenango Valley and will include representation from Quota International leadership.
Other current Club projects include ongoing mentoring events, including a business tour; a summer pool party; presentation of a scholarship for a student in speech and hearing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; financial support of Deaf Awareness Day at the Indiana Mall and purchase of a third classroom amplification system for children who are hard of hearing for the United Area School District.
